He holds university degrees in architecture, fine arts history, and Islamic archaeology. He is a frequent lecturer at these and other American universities and art museums. In 1956-58 and again in 1959-60, as American Specialist, Dr. Smith made extensive lecture tours of the Near East and South Asia under the auspices of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the Department of State. His present lectures, all illustrated by personally made slides, will draw on his-extensive archaelogoical field work in the Near East from 1933 through 1937 and his travels from 1957 up to the present time.
