Show INTERMOUNTAIN SKI INSTRUCTORS ASSOCIATION CERTIFICATION COMMITTEE MEETING October 25, 1968 Idaho Falls, Idaho The meeting was called to order by Woody Anderson at 9:30 p.m. Present were: Woody Anderson Dave Parkinson Max Lundberg Phil Jones Lou Lorenz Absent were: Don Rhinehart Glenn Evans Wilbur Thomas Harold Oglesbee Guests: Adrien Segil, Treasurer Bill Haskins, BOD Member Margean Sinclair, Executive Secretary Clark Parkinson, Secretary The Examiners Clinic will be held November 16 and 17 at Alta, Utah. PROGRAM: Theme of the Clinic will be "STRIKE ZONE." a. Invite people to demonstrate actual examination, who are weak or strong in different phases, showing basic errors, being super critical, and point out limits of demonstration and teaching methods. (These people will be notified in advance of what to expect.) Try to get 8 to 10 different type skiers, 3 or 4 from each area. Volunteers: 1. Beginner 2. Associate 3. Strong Associate 4. Demonstration Team b. Have formal panel to review and discuss demonstration,and answer questions from observers. Each examiner will give their own comments. Point out limitation of Strike Zone. c. MSC! Have mock-up of Examiners Score Card. (Anderson-Lundberg) d. Use all phases: Free skiing, teaching methods, etc. e. Invite Ski School Directors and Supervisors. f. will have a gallery for observers only; they will not participate. g. Fee for the clinic will be $5.00 and $10.00 for observers. Consideration will be made for those participating. h. MSC: Examiners or those who plan to examine during the year are required to attend this Clinic. MSC: There will be no critique on candidates. MSC: The Oral Examination will be eliminated for those that have not passed on the hill examination; talk to border-line only. Certification Committee Meeting - October 25, 1968 Page 2 MSC: Everyone will pay for Examiners Clinic. MSC: Everyone, before taking examination, will have to be registered with I.S.I.A. Requirements for registration will be: 1 .. Registration fee of $10.00. 2. First Aid Certificate. 3. Written Avalanche Report. 4. Two photographs. 5. Recommendation from Ski School Director. MSC: Candidates will have to register each year to be eligible for examination. These recommendations will be made to the BOD. MSC: Examination results be posted in paper. CERTIFICATION COMMITTEE MEETING Park City November 15, 1968 Meeting was called to order at 10:00 P.M. Present: Phil Jones, Chairman }fax Lundberg Dave Parkinson Glenn Evans Lou Lorenz Woody Anderson Jack Colven Guests: Clark T. Parkinson, Secretary Phil Jones outlined the purpose of the meeting was to set up and review the schedule and program for the examiner's clinic to be held Saturday and Sunday, November 16th and 17th. He explained the theme of the clinic was to be "The Strike Zone." Notion: That Jack Colven be appointed to the Certification Committee. Notion passed and carried. (Parkinson-Anderson) Notion: That the schedule as outlined by Phil Jones be adopted. Motion passed and carried. (Lorenz-Colven) Discussion was held regarding this year's examination procedure. Notion: That the Board leaders receive an outline of the steps to be taken after the exam and that it be included in the exam package. Motion passed and carried. (Lorenz-Colven) Motion: That we adopt a summarization of the exam results in the areas of skiing, demonstrations, teaching, and the oral phase and that it be included in the exam results letter. Motion passed and carried. (Parkinson-Evans) Motion: That in the teaching phase, each candidate be instructed that while teaching his sequence, he will have two students per exercise to determine the error and correct it. Notion passed and carried. (Lorenz-Lundberg) Motion: That the requirement for an examiner to be fully certified for at least 5 years be reinstated and inforced by the Certification Chairman. Motion passed and carried. (Colven-Lorenz) Motion: That John Sohrweide and Roger Roche be reinstated as prospective examiners. (This action was taken due to the fact that the Credentials Committee had instructed the B.O.D. last year that these individuals would not be -------------- - 2 considered as prospective examiners until further action by the Certification Committee.) Motion: That the procedure of a critique which last year was given by the back-up examiner be eliminated. Motion passed and carried. (ColvenParkinson) Motion: That examiners be given $.05 per mile for every mile over 100 miles of travel to and from an exam. This reimbursement to be made to those examiners traveling by automobile only. Motion passed and carried. Motion passed and carried. (Colven-Lorenz) Excuses from Orval Baker and Mike Wilson for the examiner's clinic were reviewed. Notion: That the excuses submitted be okayed. Motion passed and carried. (LorenzEvans) Meeting was adjourned at 1:30 A.M. CERTIFICATION COMl1ITTEE MEETING November 17, 1968 Meeting was called to order at 3:30 P.M. Present: Phil Jones, Chairman Max Lundberg Dave Parkinson Glenn Evans Lou Lorenz Woody Anderson Jack Colven Guests: Clark T. Parkinson, Secretary Discussion was held regarding the suggestion that a compromise on the first aid requirement for registered instructors be considered to the extent that a standard first aid card would be the only requirement for a registered instructor and an advanced card be held before an exam be taken. Motion: That a standard and advanced first aid card be held at the time of registration and that after a review of any immediate problems that this might involve, a change can be made. "t-fotion passed and carried. (Anderson-Parkinson) The Secretary requested that the Office of the Secretary be a standing member of the Certification Committee without a vote. The explanation of this was that since the Secretaryt s job is so deeply involved with certification, he should attend all meetings and be able to express his ideas without being invited to speak.
