Spencer F. Eccles

Spencer Fox Eccles was born August 24, 1934 in Ogden, Utah. Mr Eccles received his B.S. from the University of Utah in 1956 and his M.A. from Columbia University in 1959. Mr Eccles worked at the First Security Bank in Salt Lake City from 1960-1961 and the First Security Bank of Idaho (Boise) from 1961-1970. Mr Eccles became Executive Vice President of First Security Corporation, Salt Lake City, 1970-1975 and President from 1975-1986. He was Chief Operating Officer, 1980-1982 and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer 1982-2000. Mr Eccles was named Distinguished Alumni at the University of Utah in 1988. Mr. Eccles family has continued its relationship with the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library. The Eccles family have been generous benefactors to the University of Utah over the years providing substantial funding for the Health Sciences Education Building (Spencer F. and Cleone P. Eccles Health Sciences Education Building) and School of Medicine (Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine).
