Office telegram calling my attention to n report " . - . ) ' • - A ••.'••' by Mr; JfM'.Millard - of Altonah, Utah that, certain Indian families •'flcD BY Ai c • residing in his neighborhood were starving and directing that I give the matter immediate attention, relieving the distress from the supplies on hand and reporting later by letter has had attention, A supply of rations was sent to John Ferrell, the district farmer in that district and he was directed to make a thorough canvass of his district and supply the needs of any families found in distress and prepare a detailed report of the conditions found. His reply has now been received and while it is supported by affidavits of parties living in the district, including one -by Mr. Millard and hi3 wife-, it has been prepared by Mr. Ferrell in script and is in such condition that no one unfamiliar with his.methods and with the . conditions with which he Is dealing could understand It. I will give the gist of his report as accurately as possible. The three Indian families reported to be starving were the families of Tumqua, Wapsoo and Gilbert.
