Bias in newspaper reporting about conflicts and what happens within them has an impact on how that conflict plays out due to global perceptions. This paper will analyze three news sources: Al Jazeera, The Jerusalem Post, and The Palestine Chronicle. It will assess biased reporting in their coverage of humanitarian issues in the Gaza Strip in relation to the Israel-Palestine Conflict. One hundred and ten articles were analyzed for indicators of biased reporting, 46 being from Al Jazeera, 45 from The Jerusalem Post, and 19 from The Palestine Chronicle. What constitutes bias was determined by multiple platforms which present guides for assessing bias, and those guidelines were adapted for this analysis' purposes. The findings revealed that the Jerusalem Post carried a bias towards Israel, the Palestine Chronicle was biased towards Palestine, and Al Jazeera was biased towards Palestine. The Jerusalem Post has a greater reach and more influence in terms of Western countries like the United States. It was concluded that biased reporting has an effect on the nature of conflicts, and that reporting done about the Israel-Palestine conflict has had an impact on global perceptions and influences in relation to humanitarian issues in the Gaza Strip. |
