Y.J SECRETARY OF THE UNIVERSITY D c - ear Sir: I enclose the form of oath or affirmation called for by the State Education Department, in compliance with the provisions of the Laws of 1947, Chapter 820. Under the terms of that Act (see other side), it is unlawful for any citizen of the United States to serve as teacher, instructor or professor in the University unless he or she shall have taken this oath; and it is also unlawful for the Trustees to permit a person to serve in any such capacity in the University who has not done so. The Act provides that the oath may be administered only by a Trustee, but the State Department has ruled that when it is not feasible to appear before a Trustee the affiant may make his oath before a notary public. Several notaries public are available in the University buildings. Please execute the form which I enclose and return it, notarized, to this office for record instead of sending it direct to Albany as the directions on the back might suggest. If you are an alien or not giving instruction to students, please give written notification of that fact in order that the record may be clear.
