Show IJmuiden October 1987 - 4 - Waste Incineration Technology In total, 150 questionnaires were distributed and 20 responses were received. As a result of the limited number of replies, the information contained in the responses may only be considered as qualative. Country United Kingdom USA Federal Republic of Germany The Netherlands Italy Finland Sweden Discipline Manufacturers Operators Research Government Number 5 3 4 2 2 1 2 3 5 6 5 TABLE 1 Distribution of Questionnaire Responses by Member Country and Discipline In Table 1 is summarised the number of responses by member country and discipline. Responses were received from seven of the nine member countries representing manufacturing, operating, research and government interests. Several research topics were identified and suggested for consideration by a working group. The criteria needed to design and operate an incinerator for a particular waste are still not established. It may involve the combustion characteristics of the waste material, its heterogeneity and form, as well as local design constraints and emission regulations. It was suggested that the IFRF could investigate the combustion behaviour of various forms of waste in order to develop these design criteria. Th1S effort may involve combustion testing, detailed laboratory analysis of fuel properties or preparation of a compendium of data of operating experiences with various types of waste. |
