Show element in his current position as Assistant State 4-H Leader. He's written special poems for specific occasions or individuals and when announcing at clinics, workshops, public events or writing his monthly newsletter, he often recites his poetry or relates one of Mac's short stories or poems. As he explains, "I've always had dreams of that kind of life, but I was born 50 years too late. So, I keep it alive through poetry." MOVIN' BUT STAYIN' It seems like only yesterday I introduced myself to him. And told him what a hand I was, His faith I tried to win. He looked me o'er, a skinny guy, Then said I'd have to work. And that I did from that day on, With little chance to shirk. As time went on we grew so close, In friendship and in love, A nicer guy I'd never met, Unless he lived above. He taught me many things, I learned, 'Bout horses, ropes and things. An idol, yes, he was to me, All he lacked was wings. We shared a lot of happiness, Some sorrows crossed our way. Together just like friends we sat, And laughed our cares away. Then talk would turn to days gone by, And the close ones we'd lived through. Then thanked the Lord for what He'd done, In helping pull us through. Two paths may cross, now and then, But finally they will part, And when they do, minds drift back, To where they got their start. 104 Cowboy Poetry From Utah |
