Show reciters are part of a century-old entertainment tradition with roots in popular Victorian culture. And whether their audience is comprised of friends, family, neighbors or business associates, their performance brings with it, in a unique and dramatic way, the reality of the cowboy experience and of life in the American West. Buck Crofts Kanab, Utah born: 4 March, 1938 Buck Crofts has lived everywhere from California to Florida and he has done just about everything you might expect a contemporary cowboy to do. He's worked on several movies as a wrangler, stunt man and extra, has produced rodeos in Southern Utah, and has even tried his hand at interior decorating (in the western style, of course). In addition to these varied activities, he's spent most of his time, since he left the service, riding on the rodeo circuit. A bareback rider, who one year reached fifth place in the nation, Buck has always loved the cowboy life. He was born and raised in Kanab, Utah in a well-established pioneer family that had cattle holdings just over the state line on the Arizona Strip. Although the Taylor Grazing Act eventually forced his father out of the ranching business, Buck chose to make working with cattle his own lifestyle. He holds the X Diamond X brand. 64 Cowboy Poetry From Utah |
