Sir: The office is in receipt of your letter dated January 20, 1904, ir. which you report th-at a number cf years ago L. A. Pike, a. white men, was ma. _ to an Indian woman of the Uintah band of Utos by religious ceremony; that they have a family of eight 'children, the oldest being eighteen years of age; that the husband ar.d wife do not gat along well together, the latter having recently informed you that living with him any longer is unbearable; that she desires protection, not only physically but as regards the personal property which is held by tho family at their hone on the reservation. It appears from your statements that a comfortable hone has been built up by _Ir. Pike and his family on the reservation, and that considerable personal property, consisting of horses, cattle, farming implements and a valuable apiary have been accumulated. You state that the following question present themselves for determination: FIRST. Can llr. Pike be removed from the reservation by authority new vested in me? SECOW). Can he be removed from the Reservation by me and kept off of same, befcre he gets a divorce from his wife, |
