The lush grass, abundance of water, and mild winters made it a perfect place for ranching. Soon after their arrival the Bassetts began raising cattle and horses. In the following years they also had two more children, George and Elbert. The Bassetts were home to stay. Beginning with Uncle Sam, it is likely no family lived in Brown's Park longer than the Bassetts. It is also likely no one person loved it more than Ann Bassett, the first white child to be born there, the little girl who, from her birth, was destined to be different. |
