Solar and wind power are being introduced into electric grids to supplement and replace conventional electricity production. The deployment of utility-scale storage has not kept pace to overcome the intermittent nature of solar and to a lesser extent wind. Large-scale energy storage is currently the critical path requirement for the adoption of additional solar and wind renewable energies. The Geothermal Battery Energy Storage concept can provide large-scale energy storage to help manage the intermittent nature of solar and wind electricity generation. The concept is to store heat in the earth when solar is available and to withdraw for steam or binary cycle electric generation when needed. |
