Abstract Radian Corporation, in cooperation with Allied-Signal Inc., conducted a set of tests to demonstrate the applicability of a standard, commercially available John Zink HI burner for stationary diesel engine applications of Radian's patented Hybrid Low NOx Process. Testing was performed at John Zink's Tulsa facility in July 1990. A primary goal of the test was to document the ability to fire diesel fuel using exhaust from a diesel engine as the only oxygen source. If diesel fuel could be fired in the afterburner without the addition of makeup air, the most fuel-efficient operation of the afterburner would be achieved. An additional goal was to maintain stable, reliable, soot-free operation of the burner while firing under reducing conditions. This paper documents the test conditions, results, and conclusions of the demonstration test.
