Show I . Various 6-inch ducts and dampers--to interconnect the various equipment pieces as depicted in Figure 2. Instrumentation Three type K thermocouples--to measure the reduction furnace exit temperature, the oxidation furnace exit temperature, and the quench tower exit temperature. Teledyne combination oxygen and combustibles meters--to measure oxygen and combustibles as required at the burner air inlet, the reduction furnace outlet, the oxidation furnace outlet, and the recycle flue gas duct on the blower discharge. Teco chemiluminescence NOx analyzer to measure NOx at the reduction furnace outlet, the oxidation furnace outlet, the recycle duct, and the burner air inlet. Orifice plates with radius taps and manometers--to measure the flows of combustion air (2.5-inch orifice), recycle flue gas (3 .. 125-inch orifice), and reoxidation air (2.5-inch orifice) through the 6-inch ductwork. Brooks steel tube rotameter--to measure the flow of fuel oil to the burner. TESTING PROCEDURES To test the HI burner, this configuration had to be modified to accept a simulated diesel exhaust stream (Figure 2). This simulated exhaust was composed of recycle flue gas with sufficient fresh air added to maintain an oxygen concentration between 10 and 12%, characteristics typical of actual diesel exhaust. Test procedures were as follows: 1. The equipment was preheated to about 180QOF using about 2 million Btu/hr of natural gas. -3- |
