Colors: I had two scenes in mind when choosing the colors for this flag: 1) The night sky (Dark Blue) pierced by the Milky Way (Light Blue), overlooking the red rocks (Orange) of Southern Utah. Furthermore, the light blue stripe is placed at an angle to match the orientation of the milky way in the sky. Due to little light pollution, Southern Utah is one of the best places in the world to view the unobstructed milky way. When paired with the beauty of the State's deserts, it creates a scene that is uniquely Utah. 2) The deserts of Utah (Orange), paired with the Great Salt Lake (Light Blue) beside the Rocky Mountains (Dark Blue). The flag was designed to be very angular to further represent the jagged peaks of the Wasatch Mountains. Symbols: The Beehive is a common symbol for the state of Utah, and is meant to represent both Community and Industry. This idea is furthered by the inclusion of a hexagon surrounding the beehive. The star represents our allegiance to the United States of America. It is directly associated with the stars on the American Flag, thereby representing our place within the nation.
