"The 3 Cells of the Honeycomb represent the people of Utah: Cell 1: The sego lily- Our indigenous people 5 stamen: Our historical indigenous tribes the Ute, Dine' (Navajo), Paiute, Goshute, and Shoshone. Story: When the first pioneers came to Utah, they were taught by the indigenous people to gather various bulbs in order to survive the harsh first few winters. These first pioneers were nick-named the bulb-eaters by later groups due to their reliance on these and other native bulbs for survival. Cell 2: The hive- The people settled or raised in Utah The hive has 5 bumps for our five tribes as our modern tribes are also part of our hive. The hive has always represented unity and the importance of everyone working together for us to be successful and thrive in our desert state. Cell 3: Our state bird the California Gull- Our new people moving to Utah The California Gulls of Utah are helpful immigrants from the coast that have played an important role in the past by helping protect crops. Colors: Red mountains to the south The honey comb is brown for our many beautiful national parks The gold- is to represent our success and our golden valleys between the mountains. It is important that the gold figures also represents the success of the people of Utah blue- our skies and lakes white- our salt and snow" |
