This is good news ! But I imagine that this implies that you would not be free to do any work on manuscripts in the monateries of the Near East during 195&- 1957* Our project has finally begun to operate and Dr. Gurgis Awad, Librarian at Baghdad, is making a survey of the Arab countries, specializing on non-Arabic manuscripts. Though our funds expire with the end of this year, I wonder whether you might be free to devote a month or two to the search for IBS, during the Spring or Summer of 1957* in case Mr, Awad can arrange it. It is too soon to tell how the work will develop^ and we can not make any engagements now, but I would like to be able to tell Mr, Awad when he comes to Paris next month whether or not there is any possibility of obtaining your services. Unless I hear to the contrary, I shall have to assume that your duties at Union Seminary will prevent you from undertaking research in the Hear East during the first half of 1957. Looking forward to seeing you in September, whenl can tell you more about the various aspects of our work here, I am, Yery sincerely, 'ttJJfro. t Herbert W.
