Show Department of School Work
George F. McAfee, D. D., Superintendent
Rev. Robert M. Craig, Asst. Superintendent
156 Fifth Avenue
New York
February 16th, 1906.

Dear Friend:--

The time is approaching for making up our schedule for the year beginning April 1st, 1906.

In years past, a number of our teachers, without giving us previous notice of their intention to withdraw, have sent in their resignations so late in the season that it has been absolutely impossible to secure worthy successors. In order that we may make definite plans, we ask that if you desire reappointment you will sign and return the accompanying slip before March 1st, 1906.

We take this opportunity to call your attention to the following rule of the Board:-

TRANSFERS: Traveling expenses are paid to the field upon original appointment only, with the expectation that this amount will be returned to the Board by appointees who voluntarily retire before serving three consecutive years. Those transferred at their own request pay their own traveling expenses to the new field of labor, if a transfer is made.

It is our hope that few changes or transfers will be necessary.

Cordially yours,

Robert M. Craig.

|
Further Information |
In this letter addressed Dear Friend, Robert M. Craig of the Department of School Work writes of a new policy for transferring teachers. He notes how teachers in the past have resigned late in the season, and how difficult it has been to secure successors. The new policy states that teachers wishing to transfer to new fields will have to pay their way, though if the transfer is due to appointment by the Board then the Board will cover the costs. Mr. Craig is the assistant superintendent of the Department of School Work of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. |
