Show 4 He said it was a two-day journey f rom their home by wagon; they stopped with fri ~nd s the first night. No wonder she had fel t it necessary to come in plenty of time! We are happy to report that Jessie, the little three-year-old who stayed with us for a year or more, and then had to go to Salt Lake City for treatment on account of an illness giving very poor prognosis, is now apparently quite well and happy with fos ter parents in Monticello, Utah. Jeannette, my ward, is again at Shiprock Boarding School. Her father's name has been legally changed, and Jeannette is conforming so that she is no longer Jeannette Williams but Jeannette Harvey . . . . and here is Ruth Palmer's contribution: r N lOT long ago I had a letter from one of our former pupils who now attends a Government boarding school. She writes: "My friends and I, we want to help you again this year at Christmas with toys. Please for us save for us the job please, my friend. Thank you." Navajos are loath to volunteer for service, and we feel it is a distinct victory to have such a letter. An older girl writes: "On the bus when I left the Mission for school, there was this girl Lolita. I didn't know she lived near here. I used to know her when we were both at the San. We are very good friends. I am glad we are in the school together." ... while Helen Sturges says: r A1FTER some years of regular services at Mexican Hat there has come a request from a group of parents for a Sunday School. Mexican Hat is our "integrated congregation", the services and sermons are all in English because the Navajos have all gone to school, and the request has come from both races, as . well as from people with different r eligious, as well as racial, backgrounds. There are mothers who feel that they could teach under prooper direction, and with good materials provided. They are checking possibilities of use of the han, convenient hours etc. The women have also taken over provision of the "coffee haul''' after church, previously served by the Mission staff. Also we see the possibility of an altar guild. Far to t he east, 50 miles or more from |
