Abstract In an integrated coal gasification combined cycle power generation system, the clean-up process of fuel gas before its combustion can now be applied. An advantage of this process is that the volume of gas to be treated is very smalI as it is put under pressure (20 to 30kg/cm2G) before combustion, so that environment control faciIities and equipment can be made relatively compact. The experiment focuses on dust removal, desulfurization, and carbonmonoxide (CO) shift reaction for the construction of carbon dioxide recovery systems. In our experiment, gas produced from the Texaco type gasifier, having a capacity of feeding six tons of coal per day, was used. A ceramic fiIter was employed for dust removal, whiIe a fluidized-bed desulfurization unit using iron oxide and a fixed-bed zinc oxide-based desulfurization unit. employed to achieve higher performance, was utilized for desulfurization. For shift reaction of carbon monoxide, a catalyst currently used for industrial purposes was applied. Using these units, more than 900 hours of tests was carried out. Up tiII now, a dust removal efficiency of over 99%, a CO-conversion r a t e of 40% and a desulfurization efficiency of 97% to 98% for a combined of the fluidized-bed and fixed-bed were achieved.
