Show Economic considerations would be the most likely objection to oxy-fuel since a large percentage of petrochemical heaters use no-cost, natural draft air operation. Conclusions • Comparative testing on a production melter has confirmed that the Maxon OXYTHERM LE represents the next generation in oxy-fuel technology. • The performance results from two converted melters confirm the data we recorded and observed in the laboratory. That is, staged oxygen combustion is a method by which NOx emissions can be reduced much further than with conventional oxy-fuel combustion. • A burner technology now exists that allows effective NOx reduction on both fuel gas and fuel oil. No change in burner or furnace operation is required to accomplish this reduction. • The OXY -THERM LE, using staged oxygen combustion, did not encounter or cause production problems in either melter. • All development goals, based upon customer comments, were met and/or exceeded. 8 |
