Show were made in town, counties and states tor the work of the Lord and it will grow and increase as efforts are put forth to stimulate intelligent, constructive ways of exte11ding the Gpspel. ~hile things were quiet and the winter was very bitter, storms severe, we hela our class of instruction at the headquarters, studied the Gospel, discussed doctrinal questions and prepared for active work, I Nas also preparing a number of articles to be used later in the press. vn anuary 22, had another invitation to go with B. F. Hunyon, a prominent b ~ siness man who had invited a number of his business associates to his home, ana on this evening held a cottage meeting which lasted until nearly midni ~ ht. vn January 27, George and .hnnie Oakley took me to .tt'ranklin Park, a distance out from our headquarters to visit some of their friends, investigaters and gave us an opportunity thus to present the Gospel to them. r.P ..._ ~ I !"~~<ti yed from Franklin .u. Kesler, --see letter book ~ of this date. Shortly after this I was called by President Kesler to come over to a special conference, to be held at Brooklyn for the Eastern States Missi on. I made preparations and went. 'rhe first meeting was held at ?:30, at 258 court street, in the Grand Union Hall and continued for several hours. Apostles ~rancis M. Lyman and Mathias F. Cowley were present. They were also present at the meeting Sunday and .:onday. fk f.A On SQnuay the 6th a s oecial Priesthood meeting of the Presidents ~ ~ /1 ~1' of the various confere nces, together with the .I!;lders who were able t~ ,. .;:/' come, numbering 32, was held, from 8:45 to 1:45 , five solid hours. During this session I was called upon to make a re port of tbe labor in tbe ~ew Jersey Gonfere~ce and also to speak upon several doc nes of the Churl;h. :.t this meeting, Apostles lrancis M. Cowley occupied most o!' the time. .uuring tbis mc:e · g Brother cowley explained the position Brotter Roberts had ta the results of his coming back into favor in tbe church -f' e case of Brother }hoses Th~tcher and his disfellovship from the Church and other impc rtant events thht had takeh place in Salt Lake City a few years before. Brother Lyman explainea to the Brethren present that the ~ lders are called on missions, not for any special time, not for two, three, or even ~v rwj four years, but Llntil the President of the Mission could honorably release thew, when they h&d finished the task appointed for them. Le ex'}~ plained the doctrine of traveling without purse or scri pt, putting our ~r .... · _entire trust in the 1~lmighty. Iviany other important things were discussed 3.s in the private,meetings, a t the Priesthood meetings and general Conference p~ meetings.
