Show -2- injury than good, notwithstanding the fact that they could have been useful, had they placed themselves in a position to receive the spiritj~heir missions in this connection ,we deem it proper to state ~ that the brethren who come here, to keep out of the way of the ~. officers, do little or no goodt ~hese brethren were , of that clq:ss; and we find that they feey that their mission is to s i mply teep out of the way" instead of preach~e Gospel and seek1dr the conversion of the I-- r~ople. Another source of difficulty to us ha!S been, sending Elders here for a season and then transferring them to the British Mission or else whe r e~ We find that it takes from 12 to 18 months for an Elder to become efficient in his l a bors~and that just as he is getting in-to a condition to do good, he is taken away, and a new Elder t akes his place who has to pass through the same experience, t aking the same l ength of time before he can accom~lish muc~~ t also di sturbs other Elders associated with hi~ and causes a feeling of unrest to spread among them7often resulting ,very unpleasantly and often rendering their labors ~. We · have taken occasion to converse with these brethren, so trans - ferred1after their return home, and have found as a rul e t ha t t hey regretted the move made. The Elders in t hi s mission are allmost all of them young men, and 'f l acking ~ experience, do not com~end the results that flow from such changes, and we call your attention to this matter as much for their protection as anything else~ and to also maintain the efficiency of our force.
