Lay over two hours . Visited the Court House where the murderers . of Joseph Standing were ac quitted . At 4 : 35 took Eas t Tenn . ·train to Rome , Georgia wh ere we took sleeper f or Meridian . Had a rough ride duri ng t he ni ght . January 23 Arrived at Lauderdale at 5 a .m. and changed cars to 1-E. and 0. Ry . and arrived at Meridian a t 6:20 . Bought ticket and at seven continued our j, ourney to New Orleans . Arrived at 1 p .m. Hired rooms at 221 Gr~vier S treet ~ Walk ed about town and went to Rob inson Dime~ Musewn .- January 24 'Vi sited the French mar ket early t hi s a .m. then wa lked about the wharf' and visited a Liverpool s teamer and a pa cket running between N. GJ; V,La nd Vicksburg , both ver;1 f ine . Then took street cars to Gree nwood Cemetery whi ch we passed t hr ough . ,Then went to West end by steam ~ - spen ding an hour there . Returned to the city and attended the St •. Charles Theatr e , n:streets of ParI i s • n Janua r y 25 ~v ent out to the Exp osition t hi s a .m. and met six Elders from ~ iss Conference visiting an4 s ight see ing . Attended the Exposition all day . Returned tired and hungery . ·zialk ed about t own a while . January 26 Nent out to t he Exposition this a .m. ~nd spent t he day . Returne u at 4:30 and took steamer , Jas . D. White , .to Vi cks burg . January 27 .Aw oke in time to see Baton Rouge and during the _. day steamed u:p the river , passing Port Hudson and ot her points of' interest . Janua ry 28 \ ·Q.uite cool today . Still on t he b oat . Arrived at Vicksburg at 3:30 . Nalked up into the city and g ot· a carriage and drove out to the National Cemetery . Had a fine view of the river . Returned |
