George Romney , the energ etic cont racto r , has a f orce of from fifteen to twenty hands at work , and the alterations a r e g oing on with a vim and a rush . Although t h e i mprovements involve a g reat deal of labor, as well as i ngenuity , i-t is expected that the openi.n performance will be g iv en o t h e lst of Oc t ober"' or , a.t fu thest , by Conference time . Strang ers who hav e stepped into the t h eatre and witnessed the improvements being made have said t 1at when the latter were completed it would be one of the 11 snuggest 1 buildinb s of the kind in the co untry . The orch e stra has already been lowered, whi ch will bring the h eads of the musicians a t such a evel as not to interfere with the view of t he parquette part of the aud ience . Prepe_ rations are no ~v being made t o lovver the fro1 t of the stag e , which wi ll h ave an upwa_rd g rade f rom f ront to rear of sixteen inches . Thi s, comb ined with the new a rrangement of the arquette and other places, will enable parties in all part~ of t h e h ouse t o hav e a clear, unobstructed view, with out any inconveni en c e , of eve r y portion of the stag e . 'rhe steps or platforms of the parquette , on whi ch the chai :c s will :ce st , and sev e r al tiers of which are already mad e , will be somewhat similar i n form to a h orse-sh o e , and wi ll correspond , to son.e ext ent , wi th the curve of t h e upper circle . Th e space bet e e 1 the pillar' s wh ich support the first circle wi ll be left open and will be a kind of promenade . As a.n aid in ob taining a f ull stage view, t h e pa.rquette platforms wi ll oe g raded stage- wards i n ev e r y direc t ion, ~;'W1 ich i nvo l v e s some nice work for t h e carpenter s . The front rails of the first and second circles will b e cut down about eight inch es , and the firs~ will be r e - seated, while the upper wi ll remain as heretof ore . The t wo prosc eni um b oxes to be c onstructed on each side of the stage , are to b e fitted up in t he mos t i mproved style . If M:r> .
