Show With the School District established and David Williams, at least, temporarily a_ppointed teacher in the now known nsehool District No. 6, of Conejos County, State of Coloradon, ee.rtain meetings of the --nistrict~ officer-s \Vere held which are historieally intere~ting in that they show the str-uggles eneounterec) in the growth and development of .a pioneer community. On December 2?, 1879, a meeting of the '1Directors H of the School District was held in which the. following business was transacted: 1. ·That the Directors would not consider any complaints that might be made against a school teacher unless formal complaint is made to the Directo-r• u' w ..·. iting si&ned by three or more of the Electors of the District. 2. David Williams was employed aa the teacher o£ the first sehvol ht Mai'assa at a. aalary <>f $45.00 per month, a.nd Don Juan Amador was employed aa the teacher in the Mexican Village of Los Cerritos at $ a5. 00 pe:r. month.· ~nc:l the hours during which school would be eondu.eted were established as from 9 A .M. to 4 P .M. , from Monday to Friday inclusive. lt was decided that the President, Samuel· S. Sellers, would visit the school at Manassa ea.ch Friday of each week during the first quarter. 3. It was arranged that a special meetil'lg of the Directors would be held. February 14, 1880, in lv.tanassa for the purpose of making payment to the teachers for services rendered and the adopting of regular text books .•. The meeting was then adjourned until February 14. 1880. and the minutes were signed by L. M . Peterson, Secretary, and S . S . Sellers . P resident. |
