In a parallel turn, name some of the basic factors which would govern how much counter rotation, if any, you would use in the initiation of the turn. Name them in what you consider to be the order of their importance. Given the following actions which change (1) lean forward and edge the ski (2) lean backward and edge the ski you could make in a parallel turn--after the edge (3) lean forward and flatten the ski (4) lean backward and flatten the ski a. Which choice would you make if you wanted to encourage the ski to turn quicker? b. Which choice would you make if you wanted to make the skis turn slower? c. Briefl y expla in your answer. 3. a. Briefly describe the movement of anticipation as it appl ies to parallel skiing. b. What functional r ole does it play in the initiation of a parallel turn? c. Name some factors which would govern how much anticipation a skier might use in starting his turn. Why? 4. Note your agreement or disagreement with each of the following statements. a. Up unweighting produces the unweighting near the end of the up motion. agree or disagree? b. Once an individual finds the one way of unweighting his skis which is most effective for him (up, down, using the terrain, rebound, etc.) he should stick to that method for all conditions. agree or disagree? c. Unweighting as a principa I in skiing has an unusua I appl ication. At lower speeds it is something we act to achieve while at higher speeds we will act to minimize or even el iminate it. agree or disagree? d. Down unweighting has its least practicality at lower speeds and on very steep terrain. agree or disagree? e. Unweighting by simply moving your weight forward as you start the turn is not an effective way of unweighting for a turn, and should not be considered a-form of unweighting. agree or disagree? f. More advanced skiers would not use unweighting at all, rather they would have sufficient edge control to just flatten the ski when they start the turn without ever needing to unweight. agree or disagree? 5. a. De~cribe the basic principle of leverage. b. What functional role does it play in parallel skiing? c. What relationship might your ski boots have with this principle? SUGGESTIONS MADE AT QUESTION AND ANSWER cERIOD RE:Study Report The folllowing suggestions were made by the following individuals at the question and answer period on Sept. 18, 1971 at BurleV in the combined Ski School Directors, Board of Directors, and Past Presidents meeting: 1. Al Ellis. " Ski Schools should appoint representatives from their various schools to meet with the Certification Committee and insure communication regarding Certification is fed back to the Schools. 2. Andy Shearer: A Ski Industry Rep. should be set up under the Communication Vice President. 3. Bob Autry: A competition and coaching advisor should be set up under Technical and had responsibility for Rree Skiing. 4. Kieth Lange: An "Allied Organizations" position should be set up under Communications which would take care of P.S.I.A., and other similar responsibility. .~ PONDEROSA ~"" , ' .' . --~ - ~\ - ' '--'~-~-.-- -: ---' --- ' ~~------- ~-~-~------~---~---------~----------~~~~--n ~ _ _ _ _ _ • _ _ _ _ _ o . ----:--__ ---. --- -----7 - - .-- - -------, - -. --;- I~-----:--:--;- -1- -~---I ' . \) ~ .. -~.- - ~-- '. _ ---.---:---:---. ----,-- -- -----. ----.--.- .-;-_ .._ --_.•. .• . - -.---~~----~-------~ -- rJ · l.....
