Show Intermountain Ski Instructors Association Certification Committee Meeting November 3, 1967 Idaho Falls, Idaho The meeting was called to order by Don Rhinehart at 9:15 p.m. Present were: Don Rhinehart, Chairman Lou Lorenz Glenn Evans Wi lbur Thomas Woody Anderson Dave Parkinson Clark Parkinson Phil Jones Lou Lorenz explained to the Committee that Clark Parkinson was invited to this meeting for the purpose of taking the minutes and to help coordinate Certification Policy adopted by the Committee in the coming year. The Committee discussed the possibility of the Examiners Clinic at Alta the following weekend being postponed. Motion: That the Examiners Clinic be held at Alta on November 10 and 11 regardless of the weather and that if there was no snow, the Clinic would be conducted inside (Evans-Anderson). Motion carried. Motion: That the registration fee and expenses of those Examiners who examined last year be paid for by the Association (Jones-Parkinson). A list was to be prepared of the Examiners who examined last year and it would be reviewed by the Committee at their Alta meeting for the purpose of determining whose expenses would be paid. Certification Fees The Committee discussed the procedure of returning $5.00 to unsuccessful nonmember candidates. It was decided that it would be administratively easier to charge a $30.00 Examination Fee to non-members and refund the $5.00 if unsuccessful. Motion: Subject to BOD approval the Examination Fee for the 1967-68 season will be $30.00 with the $5.00 membership fee to be refunded if the candidate fails to qualify (Thomas-Anderson). Motion carried. Examiners Compensation Motion: Subject to BOD approval the Examiners Compensation for the 1967-68 season will be $30.00 (Parkinson-Rhinehart). Motion carried. Certification Committee Meeting November 10, 1967 Alta, Utah The meeting was called to order by Lou Lorenz at 9:00 p.m. Present were: Lou Lorenz Dave Parkinson Woody Anderson Wilbur Thomas Glenn Evans Phil Jones Max Lundberg Clark Parkinson ~-------------------~--------- -- ---~-----~--------. Certification Committee Meeting -2- November 10, 1967 Old Business Lou Lorenz discussed the position of Certification Chairman and Chief Examiner, indicating that this should be the first order of business. He noted that since the present Certification Chairman apparently did not desire to continue further in this position, that Woody Anderson should be considered. He then, after listening to the Committee's comments, appointed Woody Anderson as Certification Chairman and Chief Examiner. Motion: That Max Lundberg be appointed to the Certification Committee (LorenzEvans). Motion carried. New Business Motion: That the Certification Committee as a whole will assume the responsibility of "assistants" to the Chief Examiner (Anderson-Parkinson). Motion carried. Motion: That the "Certification Examination Policy" be adhered to in the following respects: 1. Candidates will be notified of examination results by direct mail and through the newspapers. 2. Candidates should receive the plan for certification directly from the Secretary prior to the examination (Anderson-Thomas). Motion carried. Motion: That a master worksheet be adopted and used at each examination. (Lorenz-Anderson). Motion carried. This will speed up the examination and eliminate averaging every score. Motion: That the list of Examiners used last year be approved for the purpose of expense reimbursement at the Examiners Clinic (Evans-Thomas). Motion carried. Motion: That the Certification Committee meet<during the year in addition to the presently scheduled meetings (Jones-Lundberg). Motion carried. Certification Area Representatives A list was prepared to those individuals who would be responsible for coordinating examinations in the coming year in their areas. They are as follows: Alta - Max Lundberg Park City - Phil Jones Cedar City - Geo. Hartlmaier Provo - Junior Bounous Sun Valley - Wilbur Thomas Logan/Ogden - Bob Zeigler Brighton - Dave Larson Mtn. Empire (Solitude) - Dave Parkinson Jackson-Idaho Falls - Wes Deist Burley/Pocatello/Magic Mtn./Soldier Mtn.- Glenn Evans Motion: That the Certification Area Representative list be approved (ThomasJones). Motion carried. Examiners Clinic Agenda Woody Anderson suggested the format be a panel with the Committee taking various topics and discussing them. Certification Committee Meeting -3- November 10, 1967 Motion: That the Examiners Clinic be one day and the Registration Fee be $10.00. Certification Committee Meeting November 11, 1967 Alta, Utah Following the Examiners Clinic, the Committee met to discuss questions raised in the panel topics. Motion: That the policy of exam~n~ng associate and full candidates together will be continued (Anderson-Parkinson). Motion carried. Motion: That a procedure of examination be established, whereby, the Certification Chairman and the Secretary notify candidates by mail the date and place for their examination, provide them with the ISlA Plan for Certification, notify them of their examination results, and notify the Examiners of the date and place of the scheduled examination (Anderson-Parkinson). Motion carried. Details of this procedure were to be worked out with the Certification Chairman and the Secretary. First Aid Motion: That the First Aid status would be approved by the Certification Area Representative and that in the future, the First Aid Card would not have to accompany the application. Examination Policy The Committee reviewed the 1965-66 Plan for Certification and the Examination Application and made the necessary changes to implement the changes contained herein. Motion: The examining board will not issue a critique at the conclusion of the exam. Motion: That candidates may take more than one exam per season. This may be limited by the Certification Chairman or the last examining board at their discretion. |
