Grandpa had money but he won • t spend it. I kind of r~ there were three of us as far as Hachi Hommatsu, me, grand-pa and My mother's sister• s hUband, uncle to me. •\ LK What were the kind of things you were talking about on the trip. Did you get any advice as you were leaving? 'IU LK Was your grandfather happy about your going to America? 'IU More likely, y.eah, I think so. LK Were you glad to l:::e leaving? 'IY As for me, sure, naturally. LK Did you have at that time any idea how your father looked like? 'IU I was happy to l:::e going to my father• s place. -that' s all- that' s the only way. It's Papa, Mama was gone, so it's natural to l:::e wanting to l:::e with Papa. Oh, I ranember Papa when he came heme for the first time in 1916. He was rather a small man. I heard my Mother Wa.s quite a big wcman. Papa more like me. Grand-rna and grandpa were big people. Papa' s brother, grandpa, my aunt, all big people, but Papa tiny like me. LK What did your father do when he came back? 'IU Oh, I think it was for a visit. He was in this country for a long time. He wanted to see his new wife. I don' t know how or when they got married, but any-how, whether he went back to get married, I don't know. I don• t know whether my father registered his wife exactly. I don• t know anything like that. LK Did your father go back alone to the United States? 'IU No, he left her in Japan. I guess they were married. I don't know. But anyhow, he returned to America in al::x:)Ut three or four months. There was a cerEIDJny but Papa wasn• t there. I don• t know. It's done different fran this country. |
