The artists have graciously donated their valuable time and talents to this community benefit concert series-which is one of the principal goals of the lAMA. As well, it's a good opportunity to browse the library's offerings and services, which include (of course) books, but also a selection of music on CD. The concerts are held in the library's beautiful creekside amphitheater on selected Thursdays 7:30p.m. according to the following schedule: Aug.5 Aug.19 Sept. 2 semble New Shtetl Ramblers Full House The Living Room En- The New Shtetl Ramblers play the music of the Yiddish-speaking Eastern Euro- 1 ~Eg~~~;~:i~~~;~:s among both Jewish and non-Jewish folk musicians. Klezmer music, as this music is often called, is a mix of Eastern European, Middle & Near-Eastern & Hasidic song and dance music combined with the unique influence of rabbinical/ cantorial music. The members of The New Shtetl Ramblers are: Steven Beier (clarinet & saxophone), Mark Cantor (mandolin, flute, vocals and schtick), Lewis Downey (guitar), Richard Ebling (trumpet, flute & piano). Ruth Hollander (fiddle & accordion), Steven Hollander (concertina, vocals, bones & schtick) and Leonard Nemirovsky (piano & accordion). Each member of the band brings to the group a unique musical background: from traditional folk music of America and the British Isles, jazz, classical and other musical genres. Klezmer music is, above all, a fun and exciting way of expressing the joy of the cultural roots of the Jewish folk tradition. Full House Formed in 1992, Full House deals a winning hand of traditional and contemporary bluegrass sounds. This five piece band consists of banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and bass. Full House also presents three, four and five part harmonies giving an honest interpretation of the old standards as well as the music of more contemporary artists, such as Alison Krauss and Kate Wolf. The two female, three male ensemb~e has a vocal and instrumental sound that you're sure to bet on. Full House is Craig Pederson on banjo-a stalwart of the Salt Lake City and Portland music scene. Rob Johnson on guitar- Rob is a versatile and busy musician and an important part of the vocal flavor of Full House. The bottom is maintained by Nancy Shaw who has been a part of the local music scene for years. David Pinelli, the organizing and sustaining force behind the band picks up the mandolin duties while Monique Pinelli gives the finishing touched on fiddle. 12 Intermountain Acoustic Musician, August 1993 |
