Show Ed Gerhard & Bill Mize Two of the country's best guitarists set concerts in April Guitarists Edward Gerhard and Bill Mize, featured on the popular Windham Hill Records, Guitar Sampler, will appear Saturday, April24 at the Social Work Auditorium on the University of Utah campus, Salt Lake City. Show time is 7:30p.m., presented by the Intermountain Acoustic Music Association. Tickets are $9 in advance; $10 the day of the concert. As always, lAMA members and ASUU students receive a $1 discount on admission. On Friday, April23, Gerhard and Mize will hold an informal lecture/demonstration from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a reception until5 p.m. at Local Music, a new Salt Lake City music store at 774 E. 800 South. Workshop cost is $10; call539-1439 for information. After the reception, the pair heads south for a concert at Great Salt Lake Guitar Co., 362 W. Center Street in Provo. Gerhard's debut album, Night Birds, now available on Virtue Records was met with critical raves, including the Boston Globe's annual critics' poll, noting the top 10 albums of the year. Ed's second recording, Christmas, was released last year, also on Virtue, to more critical acclaim. The Boston Globe called the recording, "The best folk holiday record of 1991." Gerhard performs on 6-string and 12-string steelbody guitars. He tours extensively, sharing the stage with notables Liz Story, Scott Cossu, Don Henley and Arlo Guthrie. His concerts are memorable for inspired virtuosity and spontaneous hilarity. He is currently touring with his third Virtue release, Luna. continued next page |
