Show John Florez 10-24-84 sl:p14 they flew me back there. And they wined me and dine me just before school let out. And in the meantime, I got involved with an old graduate from this school in San M ___ l County. And it sounded so fascinating, exciting, working with youth, ah, dependent neglect children. It was a whole, it was part of the St. Paul, Minnesota multi-problem family project. Of working in a very active forward probation department, working with youth and families. That I took that job instead. At the last minute. And I gave that job, ah, then I referred that job to my friend, Bob Green, who was graduating wi~h me. And he was always. It was always funny because we went to school together and he wanted the VA placement the~- year placement, I got it, he didn't. So when I had the opportunity to get that job, I didn't take so he did. And I took this other job. He's now - He's now, I think he's ready to retire next month. Has anice home off -- up at the Puegot Sound, overlooking there. And has a boat. And has all kinds of vacation time. And he said, "John, you' 11 never change, wi 11 you? You' re sti 11 trying to save the world." I said, "Yeah, I am." But anyway. It was -- That ,oject was exciting becuase it was very stimulating. We had Fritz Rdle there as a consultant. You had Eric Burn. Those are the calibre of the people that were there. In the in-service training program. I chose to do that. The reason I chose to leave the state was again to prove my - to prove to myself that! could compete with anyone. With my professional experience. I wouldn't have had a ----- geting a job here. But what I really wanted to do, I wanted to have some way of measuring my professional capabilities with people from other universities, other graduate schools of social |
