Show schematic of the butane system and furnace set-up is shown in Fig.l. Having two options, butane can be delivered directly from the tank through the vaporizer to the burners, or, using the pump when the weather is cold or high burner capacity is required. Fig.2 illustrates the burner set-up in the furnace with inner dimensions of 0.6 x 0.6 x 1.6m. A combustion system for natural gas, propane and butane delivery, plus control and measurement instruments are employed. The fuel flow and combustion air are adjusted by ALO and Butterfly Valves respectively. A Lynn carbon monoxide analyzer is used to measure co emissions and a Thermo-Environmental analyzer is used for NOx emissions. To measure air and fuel flow, pipe orifices and flowmeters are utilized. To control furnace temperature, two thermocouples are set up in the side wall of the furnace along the radiant tube axis. The thermocouple is inserted in the exhaust pipe to measure the flue gas temperature. Measurements of the temperature distribution along the outer tube are conducted by thermocouples fixed at equal distances from each other on the tube surface. numbers are monitored by a Bacharach instrument. Smoke An Eclipse-Dungs UV scanner is installed to control the flame. A Realistic brand sound level meter device is used to measure the sound level of the burner operation. S.E.R.'s Eclipse Combustion, Inc. Single-Ended Radiant Tube Burners (SER's) were the first subject to be modernized. Fig.3 demonstrates the burner design and nozzle schematic for 83.0mm (3.25 inches), ll4mm (4.5 inches), l52mm (6.0 inches) effective tube diameters. SER burners consist of a body with air and gas -3- |
