February 5, I960 Hilton Carte Blanche 9544 Sunset Boulevard U* Angeles 46, California Account #: 940 676 247 7 Oeatleaen: I want to register with you a protest against the manner in which you have been submitting your statements to me. 1. After a one-veek lecture-tour, I returned to New York yesterday to find two letters from you: one, post-narked January 25, containing a statement of accounts; and the other, post-narked January 29 (i.e., only four days later) insinuating that I have failed to aaintain a "prompt payment record". I do not know what dictionary your letter-writers use;ia but I do not think that any dictionary vould endorse your use of the word "prompt" under these circumstances. If you do value the good will of your aeabers, as your letter professes to, then you must either hire a different teaa of letter writers, or a more courteous (or perhaps more efficient) team of accountants and follow-^p personnel. I cannot accept the kind of letter I have just received from you; and I doubt whether any other member would, under similar Circuastances. 1 want you to know that 1 belong to every credit-card club in the United States, and never have I experienced what I have just experienced with yoi. You may feel free to sever my membership at any time you choose; I have no use for such a credit account which fails to respect even t/:e elementary rignts of a member not to be abused. 2. Tour statement, sent on January 25, contains tvo groups of items: (a) an itemized current group; and (b) a so-called previous balance of *18.13e\ Tour later 1-tter refers to the latter balance as having been "carried in excess of 60 days". I HAVE RECEIVED HO SUCE 1K2B1I STATIST FROM YOU IN II- FAST AT ANY TIME: THIS 13 THE FIP - TIME I B*A* OF IT, IN FACT; A M I 00 KOT KNOW (SINCE :0U LAVE NOT I W 1 Ei) IT TO\,IT EXPENDITURES IT PLAINS. This is the r,i,ht of inefficiency -1 z n ^ Z ^ ^ which commits such inefficiency has no right to accuse people of not being "prompt"• In this connection, let me inform you that, as long, ago as October 23, 1959, I wrote you asking you to ccange the address you uad inserted on the card v.h1ch you had sent ne while I was overseas without my soliciting it in any gag, ^ informed you of my correct address. 1 added: J "Will you please send me all bills, including current bills, to my present address. Bills, statements and other communications sent to my former address may be forwarded to me after lengthy delay, causing unwanted tardiness on my part in sending back my payment. Your urgent action on this matter *ill be greatly appreciated." ./. • |
