Show - 3 - material, i . e . , letters, other Communications, memoranda, e t c , taken from the U.S. Federal District Court records of the Joftes' cases stands by itself in the presentation against B'nai B'rith and CBOJO. This source material may or may not apply to the Joftes' charges of libel and slander against him; court will decide on t h i s . But the source material clearly applies, outside the context of the Joftes' cases, in the presentation against B'nai B'rith and CBOJO. Thirdly, I believe refutation of B'nai B'rith "good works" in the áreas of combatting anti-semitism and civil rights work generally should be made. This refutation may be crucial, because, as we know, the rebuttal of the presentation against B'nai B'rith and CBOJO in committee largely centered on these supposed "good works". This refutation should be based upon the following points: 1. B"nai B'rith's work in these overlapping áreas is largely carried on by the Anti-Defamation League, a constituent part of B*naiB'rith. 2. The most serious, most learned, most sophisticated, and best work done by Jews and non-Jews on anti-semitism in the United States and elsewhere, has neither been done by staff members of the A.D.L. nor B'nai B'rith or under the auspices of the A.D.L. or B'nai B'rith. (See, for example, the essays and bibliographies in Stember, ed. Jews in the Mind of America [New York: Basic Books, 1966jmost of the essays in this book, written by those who have done someof the best work on anti-semitism, deal with many sides of anti-semitism. Most of the essays, moreover, contain extensive bibliographical footnotes indicating the major studies done of anti-semitism. There is almost no reference to A.D.L. or B'nai B'rith work in this á r e a .) |
