While it was formulated under the Democratic administration, it has been affirmed and re-affirmed on the highest level of American Government by the Republican administration. Recent events have put the Declaration, the policy it represents, and the determination of the United States Government to enforce it, to the test. It is therefore important to recall the text of that Paragraph of the Declaration which is primarily relevant to the recent crisis in the Middle East, and to reproduce some of the more authoritative re-affirmations made from time to time by responsible leaders of the American Government." |
