Utah's tracksters were the class of the State in running events, but were weak in the weights, so they finished second in the State meet after breaking even in dual competition, losing to Utah Aggies but defeating B.Y.U., who later won the State meet. In the Conference meet the Utes finished fourth behind Colorado, B.Y.U. and Utah State. Wes Thomas-sen in the sprints and Garth Paxman in the quarter mile were standouts among the Ute runners. Other dependable performers were Cliff Cooper in the pole vault and Jim Woodward and Marvin Hess in the high jump.
