Show THE REALIGNMENT OF DOE COMBUSTION RESEARCH ACTIVITIES By Gideon M. Varga, Jr. Program Manager U. S. Department of Energy B-4- The Department of Energy's Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT) has begun to work even more closely with seven of the largest energy consuming industries in the U. S. OIT projects including orr industrial combustion activities, are now being targeted at these seven "Industries of the Future". These industries are: aluminum, chemicals, forest products, glass, metal casting, petroleum refining and steel. The decision to focus on these seven industries was made since they consume well over 80% of the energy used by U. S. industry and are responsible for more than 90% of the waste and air emissions generated by industry. The industries themselves are energy intensive. Current combustion projects including the recently initiated Very Low Emission projects are being reoriented to accommodate this change. 1 |
