Garff and Debate Manager Mary Jane Root, the debate club members participated in two out-of-state tournaments, a legislative assembly, and acted as judges In the Utah State high school tournament. In February Beverly Burt, Bonnie Howells, Nicholas G. Smith, Jr., and Bruce Jenkins attended the intermountain forensic meet in Denver, at which Smith received an award of excellence. At the Pacific Coast league held in Los Angeles in April, Betty Nickerson won third place in extemporaneous speaking. Mary Jane Root, Bruce Jenkins, and Nicholas Smith also attended the meet. Eight University of Utah debaters participated in the annual legislative assembly held at the state capitol. The question for debate this year was "RESOLVED: That the federal government should enact legislation providing for the compulsory arbitration of labor disputes." :..,. J I 132 |
