Show UTAH MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS is the primary cultural resource for the visual arts in Utah and is the only public institution in the state with the goal of presenting a general collection of art objects selected for quality, and representing the principal artistic styles and periods of civilization.The function of the Museum is to develop essential resources in the visual arts for the University community and the general public. Selections from the permanent collection are always on view to provide an overview of the artistic styles of the principal historic periods. Included are European paintings and furniture from the 1 6th through the 1 9th centuries. Asiatic material, Egyptian and Cypriot antiquities, and contemporary American works. The Museum also organizes major temporary exhibitions of materials on loan and of works from the permanent collections. These exhibitions freqeuntly circulate to other institutions throughout the country.The Museum was the first universityart museum in the West to be accredited by the American Association of Museums. The Utah Museum of Fine Arts has been named to the Association of Art Museum Directors and is among the four university museums in the West in the membership of this prestigious organization. These professional honors are a measure of the high level of professionalism and excellence in the Museum's administration and collections.The museum offers many education services, making it a genuine resource to the community and state. These programs are "Museum on the Road, "Teacher Resource Center", "Museum Experience for Senior Citizens", "Docent Training Program", and the "Public Information Center". The programs at the Museum are greatly enriched by a variety of constant activities, such as the film series, gallery talks, and guided tours. Also, throughout the year the Museum sponsors other activities such as poetry readings, chamber music concerts, dance performances, and other art events.40 |
