Chipman Gray Harris Reeves Swan Culp Nelson To begin with, this has been a successful year in basketball. Although basketball got a late start at the institution, due to the "flu" epidemic, once the team began to get started there was no stopping them. They accomplished two feats which are always noteworthy, beating the Aggies and the B. Y, U, on their own floors, and what was really remarkable about both victories was the ease with which they won. However, the last contest with the Farmers, on our own floor, was a classic struggle, a seesaw game from the first blast of the whistle. It was so close that it was painful to watch. But we finally won, with a bare margin of one point. In our try for the national title, we were not so successful. The eastern teams dropped out of the tournament, and it simmered down to a contest between Utah and the California teams. In this we played at a disadvantage, for the style of game played in the Golden State is of the gentler variety, while Utah, with experience against the eastern teams in the Chicago world contests, played the aggressive game of the east. It was inevitable that the officials should hinder us, and that they did, and more. In every game, one or more men were taken from the game for personal fouls, and indeed, they hardly gave us a chance to start a play. It is enough to say that it is unfortunate for us that the eastern teams did not enter. The team this year was a real machine, strong, both on offensive and defensive. On the forward line, Wright and Romney were a dangerous combination, working together with great smoothness. Steve at center played his strong and steady game, and was a tower of strength. Woody Romney at guard was good for a basket or two in every game, and a forward did well to even score off him. Woodbury was a slashing fighter, and he not only had the knack of holding his man down low, but he was a good scorer. Scores.
