Title |
On the early development of Stagnicola Kingi (Meek) the Utah Ribbed Snail |
Date |
1934-03 |
Description |
General interest in the subject of molluscan embryology has continued in part because of the relation of its problems and processes to those of adult anatomy and ph_ysiology and in part because of its promise of light on the dynamic, developmental process itself. Attention was called to the present form because of its earlier uncertain taxonomic position, and its restriction to the Great Basin area, where, although wide-spread and abundant in Tertiary and Quaternary times, it is now all but extinct. (Cf. Chamberlin, 1982.) It seems desirable to place on record the following summary of the early embryology of this form which promises to be increasingly significant in studies on the historic and ecologic aspects of the fauna of the region. |
