Show 2. Coal Characteristics 2.1 Fuel AnalYsis and Particle Size Distributions The characteristics of the coals tested are presented in Table 1. All of these coals are bituminous coal and the fuel ratios ( FR = fixed carbon / volati Ie matter) are between 1. 1 and 2.3. Four di fferent particle size distributions (less than 70%, 80%, 90% and more than 95% thr~u~h 200 mesh (74p.» were prepared for each of A. Band D coals and three distributions (80%,90% and ~ore than 95% through 200 .esh) for C coal. The measurements of the particle size distributions used both the laser diffraction particle sizer and the wet sieve . 2.2 Combmtion Rate of Coals The coals listed in Table 1 were first characterized in terms of the combustion rate using a laboratory reactor shown in Figure 2.
