Show A Jenco 6071 pH meter was used to measure the pH and temperature of the scrubbing solution. Janco 6071 is a mlcrocomputer based pH/mv/temperature meter. Liquid samples were taken from the scrubber at regular time interval. Ionic concentrations were determined both qualitatively and quantitatively using Dionex ion chromatography system 2120i. RESULTS The results from the bubbling scrubbing system are given in this section. Two scrubbing media, alkaline and sodium chlorite aqueous solution, were evaluated. ABSORPTION OF NO IN CAUSTIC AQUEOUS SCRUBBING A series of runs with gaseous mixtures containing 300, 500, or 800 ppm NO in N2 were conducted with scrubbing solutions containing: 0, 0.0001, 0.01, or 1.0 M NaOH. All tests were conducted in one liter of scrubbing solution at room temperature (2S oC) and atmospheric pressure. Table 2 .summarizes the results. Note that NO is not absorbed by distilled water, nor by NaOH up to 1.0 M. Table 2. Absorption of NO in caustic Aqueous Scrubbing Absorption ~ 0 NO (ppm) Conc. of NaOH (molarity) 0 0.0001 0.1 1 300 0.5 1.1 0.7 1.0 500 0.7 1.1 1.0 0.8 800 0.6 1.2 0.8 1.1 NO(out) were, absorption % = 1 - ----------- * 100% NO (in) ABSORPTION OF N02 IN CAUSTIC SOLUTIONS The absorption of N02 in caustic aqueous scrubbing was evaluated at the following conditions: Gas: 300, 500, or 800 ppm N02 Scrubbing solutions: 0.01, 0.1, or 0.5 M NaOH Data in Table 3 show that N02 can be effectively absorbed by NaOH solution. Runs with 0.5 M NaOH indicate that absorption of more than 98% is achieved. 6 |
