Show Tracy Aviary Interpretive Signs Department of Biology The Aviary plays a large role in species conservation. By engaging in captive release programs, habitat preservation projects, and public education, the aviary has helped support many bird populations. The goal of each sign will be to educate the general public about each bird species represented at the aviary. By showing the unique nature of each species I hope to show the importance of conserving each species. One hundred signs were completed during the course of the project, which covered topics on conservation, evolution, specifics on each species on display, as well as the history of the Aviary. Each sign includes a photograph, world map showing location of bird population, raw scientific facts such as the Latin name, habitat and diet, as well as information making each species of bird unique. Unlike interpretive signs in most zoos and aviaries however, the information in these signs will be presented in an artistic and fun way in order to interest the youth visitors of Tracy Aviary.
