| Abstract |
Experiments have been conducted with chlorinated hydrocarbons to investigate the combustion characteristics of liquid hazardous wastes. Single droplets of alkanes, monochloroalkanes, and tetrachloroethane (C2H2C4) are injected into the post-combustion region of a flat-flame burner with either 0% or 18% excess air. The vaporization and burning rate constants defined by the D2_1aw are calculated and compared. The data show that C2H2C4 does not burn at typical incinerator conditions. However, it combusts readily when combined with only a small quantity of regular hydrocarbon fuel. Combustion is enhanced when the hydrocarbon additive is less volatile than the C2H2Cl4. |
