Description This is a letter to William J. Cop, a Mormon settler living in California. In the letter, Brigham Young addressed several different issues, including the conditions of settlers in San Bernadino, CA, the arrival of alleged Mormon persecuters at Winter Quarters, and the events of the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Young encouraged Cop to remain in California, and if forced to sell property, to do so only if they recieved market value, or close to it. Young discussed reports that Mormon "enemies" had reached Winter Quarters, but that it did not appear that they would continue to Utah. He then discussed the Mountain Meadows Massacre. He concluded the letter with a warning to the editors of the periodical the Los Angelas Star who seem to have written an article about the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Brigham Young tells Cop to inform the editors to get their facts about the incident straight if they intend to write any additional articles.
