Show #20 , Page 3 ~ n their learning to read the Navajo language, and. in their interest in the Church. It is a joy to have them with us. Already our faithful friends, many of them from across the continent, are sending us children's clothes, toys, stuffed animals, baby clothes and Christmas candy. One especially generous friend is sending us blankets, quilts and quilt pieces, as the Navajos love to make patchwork quilts but often have to make them from bits of old garments. Some who realize how much we want to keep the new Vicar, have sent checks to help us get through the year. We had forgotten about salaries in the last 30 years. Now we know. Our basketball and tether ball, given by an Arizona friend, have finally disintegratedo One of the fathers tried to strap the shreds of the tether ball together with bicycle tape, without lasting success o One of the pictures I failed to get was a young mother securely clutching a young baby over her left shoulder while she made a few passes at the tether ball with her right handl JI()..ppl-~. We wish you could all be here to see the joy of the children, hear their carols at Mass, see their faces as they get their small toys, popcorn (which they had popped), candy and fizzies. The wintery winds are whistling around the house and our beautiful autumn weather is goneo Father Kawano, Margaret and Kegan have moved into their trailer. The Frank Construction Co. have put in their septic tank and leach field and connected on to our water lineo A su~den emptying of the propane gas tank alerted us to the fact that we had an underground leak in the line 0 This caused the replacement of over 400 feet of pipe line that was buried over nine years ago. We have had to increase the office space to accommodate the various pieces of equipment (Ed. note I and the not-so-long-suffering office workerl) and Stanley Holiday has been working on that on weekends. This is the first time I have asked for funds for projects, but age is creeping on and I am not able to do all the work that I used to do, and so I must add my bit to the request for funds to help keep the Center going so that we may continue to serve our Navajo neighbors. |
