It was pointed out that peyote is not Navajo medicine at all but was bad white man medicine (introduced to the Reservation some forty years ago). The statement fell on deaf ears. However, the next Sunday found mother, father and children at Mass to receive Holy Communion. Soon after, alas, the whole family was again found to be attending peyote rites (it is often taken with religious implications and prayers offered). We wonder how it will all end! EACH week brings pleas of how the writer may help and share our goals in a personal and missionary way. Some offer money, clothing or themselves. Guilds sew, collect clothing and contribute money raising endeavors. Others show our pUblicity kit to their groups. With this Newsletter we enclose a new printing of "A Voice in the Desert". Here is a simple and very real way each of our readers may help. Read the enclosed, then hand to a new friend of St. Christopher's who will be genuinely interested and at least enclose a dollar to defray the cost of printing and receiving the Newsletters in the future. Christianity has ever spread by this most personal and zealous contact and we welcome any who will be acquainted with our work in this fashion. Thus you enable us to be your working hands here. Additional copies are available for the asking. We also have copies of our last Newsletter which was the 20th Anniversary invitation and announcement. The next printing will be a double souvenir issue of the celebration and will carry historic pictures 'of the past twenty years as well as plans for the future (especially for those who cannot join us on July 25). WE try constantly to be on the look out for materials and sources that will aid us in being the proper channels of Redemption for all we serve. After a very impressing visit by Father Ian D. Mitchell and his family last Fall, we were convinced that his new American Folk Song Mass would be a perfect instrument for use here. He played it for us several times and the people were 5 very enthused. Happily, it is now available on records and we would like you to have the opportunity to share our enthusiasm. A long playing record in either monaural ($3.95) or stereo ($4.95) may be obtained with 25c included for postage, by ordering from American Folk S(}ng Mass, 2100 North Avers, Chicago 47, Illinois. In appreciation Father Mitchell will send one dollar from each record sold this way to the Mission for its work. Our mailing now reaches more than fifteen thousand so you can imagine the effect a good response would have. Be sure and mention the Newsletter when ordering. You will want to order several for your friends and for gifts. As we look forward to summer, we find that six workers have answered our call for help. It will be a busy summer, .indeed, but willing hands will make light work.
