They have leased the ground allotted to us here up around Willow Creek and we do not want any cattle in here by the white men. We do not v/ant any men to come in here and talk about leasing the grazing ground. Here*at Ouray Agency they talk straight, not crooked, .just talk one way. You heard all the Indians talk straight, ,1ust one way. You heard what they said today. We can hear v/hat we are talking about today. Spear Hubbard. "No headmen did not know anything about Dick Wanrodes going to Washington. That is why v/e do not think it is right. That is why this man talks about leasing the land. We do not want it to be leased. All these Uncompahgres talked about not leasing their land. You can see how it is today, it is allotted all over, it belong to the Uintah, Whiterivers, and Uncompahgre Indians. The Government gave us these.allotments and grazing ground. Thats the reason--••'• why v/e want to keep this grazing ground. The Indians have a few cattle and a few horses all through the Whiteriver, and this side of Blue Mountain, through there. Thats the reason why we want it straight and have it written down and sent to Washington so that it will be straight about this grazing ground and it will not be leased." |
